Author Study on Virginia Hamilton
Context The Author Study project was created under the instruction of Beth Frye in a reading and language course, at Appalachian State University. This project required researching an author, reading a variety of his or her work, and creating an activity that can be used in a classroom with students who read some of the author's work. Impact I plan to use this project as a way to learn about different authors and choose books for my class that fit the NC Standard Course of study as well as for the enjoyment of the students. Researching different authors as a teacher, will provide more opportunities for the students to explore author style and craft, as well as introducing them to authors of different genres. Alignment This artifact shows using technology as a way to communicate by searching for information about an author on the web and the students could form a way of communicating with an author they may love by emailing the author on a regular basis. The class could also create a web page about the author showing their work on various activities that they have completed, while reading books by this author (Tech V D). In order for the teacher to pick out authors that the students will enjoy, they have to understand their development. The teacher should choose books from authors that write across different reading levels, because not everyone in the class will be on the same reading level. The teacher should provide an opportunity for the entire class to learn, so the author that he or she chooses for the class to study, must write books on a variety of reading levels (INTASC 3). |
