Newsletter to parents created as an example of a newsletter that would inform parents of important events going on in their child’s classroom and other information that would help them stay in touch with their children’s learning experiences.

Context
This newsletter was created using Microsoft Publisher. It was created during my FDN 3100 class (computer technology class) at ASU.  I created this newsletter as a model of the type of newsletter I would send home to parents at the beginning of each school year to inform them of my plans and expectations for their child’s class for the year.  This is one of the ways I plan to communicate with parents about their child’s learning experiences throughout the year.

Impact
This type of newsletter could be used by teachers to inform parents of the events and activities going on in their classrooms.  This newsletter could also be used to request parents’ help with classroom activities, obtaining supplies for students, support with homework, etc.  It might be difficult for teachers and parents to find time to talk as often as they would like; a newsletter such as this one would give teachers the opportunity to communicate important news to parents more often without the problem of schedule conflicts. This newsletter format could also be utilized to communicate classroom happenings to other teachers, schools, and community members. A newsletter is an appealing way to share information with others as often as a teacher, or anyone, feels necessary.

Alignment
This newsletter provides teachers with a way to communicate information to parents on their children’s learning, classroom experiences, and other data relevant to student progress. The format of the newsletter lends itself to the presentation of a various information in a way that is both effective and pleasing to read  (Tech. Competency 12.3).  The ongoing communication that a newsletter would allow teachers to have with parents, colleagues, students, etc. would help encourage positive relationships between teachers and other members of students’ support systems.  These relationships would benefit students’ learning and their overall well-being.  There can never be too many people in a child’s corner (INTASC #10).
