Handout for Students on Copyright Laws: to be used by the classroom teacher in a lesson so that the students gain full understanding of what has to be documented in their research and why.

Context
This handout for students was developed during my pre-service training at Appalachian State University during the Fall 2000.

Impact
Students will gain understanding of the copyright laws and the documentation that is expected of them when they do research on the Internet.  The teacher can use this handout as a guide during their lesson about copyright laws and have the children sign it at the end.  Compliance with the copyright laws will become an established classroom policy that students are expected to follow.  If there are any questions about what to document while they are researching, students will be able to refer to their handouts.  Teachers can make a copy of the signed handouts to keep on file for their records.

Alignment
Teachers who give this handout to their students establish classroom policies and procedures that ensure compliance with copyright laws (Tech. Comp. 14.1)
