Textbook Analysis

Context:  This project was created in a Social Studies Methods course during my Senior year at Appalachian State University.  Under the instructon of Dr. Michael Jacobson, we analyzed two elementary textbooks.

Impact:  Completing this textbook analysis has shown that there are discrepancies between books and publishers.  It is necessary to look pull information from several differnet resources rather than only concentrating on the material in the selected textbook itself.  It is important for the teacher to be able to follow the format of the textbook because it is necessary in order to make the standards determined by the state.

Alignment:  This analysis requires that you look at two different resources and their effectiveness.  As a teacher, you must consider the resources that you are using and determine if they are valuable materials to use for instruction (Tech Comp II C).

Teachers are constantly evaluating and modifyign their lessons based on past experiences, as well as new information and ideas.  It is important to be open to new ideas and information that will help teachers grow professionally.  While evaluating textbooks, teachers are able to find valuable information and new ideas that they can research and implement in later lessons (INTASC 9).
