Rationale 3: Media
Ethnography
Competencies:
12.6: "Resources available including satellite,
cable, wireless, and ITFS (Instructional Television Fixed Service)
Context:
This artifact required me to research
a topic at my internship school, put the topic into a Power Point presentation,
and then present the information to the class. I worked in a group with
the two other fifth grade interns at Crossnore Elementary. We decided that
we wanted to research body image and dieting views in the fifth grade.
We developed questions that we wanted to ask the students. The girl interns
asked the questions to the female students, and I asked the questions to
the male students. We then got together and discussed all of our research
findings.
We put the information into a power
point presentation. We did not write out our findings on the Power Point,
rather our power point was a collage of pictures that strengthened what
we said in the presentation.
We pretended that our classmates were
a group of parents. We developed out presentation with the thought that
we were presenting this at a PTA meeting. We split up the presenting time
to where we all had an equal share of speaking in the presentation.
Impact:
I will have to gather information about
the students at the school and I will need to know how to present the information
to their parents. Power Point is an effective displaying program, but if
not used carefully it can be extremely boring. I now know how to create
a Power Point Presentation that is both informative and is not a bore to
sit through.
Alignment:
This artifact aligns with competency
12.6. The project aligns with this competency, because I used Power Point
which was an available program for me to utilize.
This artifact also aligns with Intasc
Principles 2 and 10. This project allowed me to research my student's
thoughts about body imaging and dieting. This information provides me with
the knowledge to know how I should address certain topics with my students.
Knowing their thought patterns and beliefs about a topic will allow me
to adequately teach them (Principle 2).
This project was created and
presented with the thought that it was intended for parents and faculty
(Principle 10). This project showed the presenters how research and present
topics that would be a benefit for the parents.
