Software Evaluation

Artifact 1
Software Evaluation
Context:
This artifact is a Software Evaluation that allowed us as teachers to analyze a piece of software that we could possibly use in our future classrooms.  I picked “Kid Pix Deluxe: Fun Tools For Big Imaginations” to review. As I played the game, I looked for strengths and weaknesses and got a feel for what it had to offer and what it could do for both instructional purposes and free time. The game is on a 3rd-6th grade level and provided the user with a lot of instruction and detail. The game provided many opportunities for the students, and I feel that it would be a good resource for my future classes.

Impact:

This is a good resource for future use in my classroom.  As a teacher, I plan to incorporate different software programs into my classroom to enhance the learning of my students.  I feel that certain software programs really have a lot to offer and I would like to be able to provide this for my students.  By having evaluated software I will be able to determine which software would be appropriate to use in my classroom and best benefit my students.

Alignment:

This review required me to research the Kid Pix Deluxe math software.  This activity meets Tech Competencies II B,C, III A, and V B because I identified and located a technology resource for the classroom and evaluated it for classroom use.  Now that I am familiar with this game, I will use it to facilitate technology use in my classroom.

 Alignment with INTASC Standards:

This artifact aligns with INTASC Standard III because it shows that I will continually evaluate the effects of my choices for the students.  I can and will evaluate any piece of software before allowing my students to use it, to make sure that they are accessing tools that I deem appropriate.  After I have evaluated the software, I will consult with others for their opinions as well.  Once the program has been deemed useful, I will introduce it in my classroom and learn from the ways students respond to it.  .
