Context: At Appalachian State University, I created this artifact in a curriculum and instruction course taught by Pam Schram. I wrote a paper about the classroom environment in which I am doing my internship. I had to pay attention to the set up of the classroom and think about how it effects the students' social interaction and active learning. It is important for the children to feel comfortable and safe in their classroom. Impact: As a future teacher, it is important to observe other teachers and see how they set their classroom up for ideas. It is useful to acknowledge the variety in the classroom and whether or not it provides a positive learning environment. I liked a lot of what she had done and appreciated her ideas, but I will continue to look to find more ideas that will suit my personal style of teaching. There is always room for improvement when considering the success of our students. Alignment: The Climate/Environment Assessment aligns with Tech Competency II D. This was a good project that allowed for me to formally and informally assess a classroom and evaluate whether or not it provided continuous development of the learner. Through observation, I was also able to evaluate the effects of class activities on individual and on a group basis through classroom interaction, and behavior. Alignment with INTASC Standards: As I created the classroom
environment, I had to keep in mind the interest of the students, as well
as the importance of their motivation and behavior. I had to make
sure that the environment that I created encourages positive social interaction,
active engagement in learning, and self- motivation (INTASC
5). It also meets INTASC 8 because
I will use informal and formal ways of assessment to enhance the best learning
environment for my students.
