  • This four week unit plan is designed to be taught in a sixth grade classroom.  The unit will focus on folktales as a way to learn about the European nations.  The students will spend each of the four weeks concentrating on a particular region's folklore.  We have divided Europe into the following regions: a) Scandinavia b) Russia/Western Europe c) Britain and Ireland and d) Meditteranean Europe.  This unit was designed with particular North Carolina Curriculum requirements in mind.  This unit focuses on many of the state requirements including Social Studies, Writing, Computer Skills, Art, Communication skills, etc... (10.1)  During this unit folktales will be provided and sometimes read in their native languages including: French, German, Spanish and Italian. (13.3) .  In addition students are required to look up resources for their team projects on the internet in both English and the languages native to their regions (13.4).
