Math Assessment- An observation and assessment of class and two individual students in math.

Context
I conducted this assessment and observation as part of my Math for Elementary class in the Spring semester at Appalachian State University. I observed students in a first grade class at Mable Elementary and assessed formally and informally their worksheets and test papers.

Impact
Assessment is a necessary part of teaching. A teacher should always be informally assessing how they are doing and how her/his students are doing. When they do this, they can be deciding whether they need to go back and review or challenge their students more. I got a chance to see how this can be done and how important it will be in my classroom. It also gives the teacher a chance to see how particular students are or are not progressing.

Alignment
I observed two students in depth about how they go about doing math. After this, I got a chance to see their worksheets and see what types of mistakes if any they made. I also got to interview them about their feelings and views about math. With all this information together I got a chance to see what level, roughly, these two students are on in math. As a different part of this assessment project, I got to look at a class set of a math test and see how they did and how they were assessed. I saw how informal and formal assessment fit into the classroom and how important they both are. (INTASC #8)
