Artifact Six:
Author Study
This power point presentation was created to share information with
students about a famous children's author.
Context: This power point author study was completed in RE 5140 Advanced Children's Literature. I researched the famous children's author Kevin Henkes. I used my newly learned information and put it into a power point so that when it was presented to students it would be in an interesting and inviting manner. The presentation included background information, information on his books, a link to his website, as well as other information about the chosen author. I use this power point during my author study about Kevin Henkes at the beginning of each school year. Many of the children's books written by Kevin Henkes pertain to children's social skills and the situations that many students go through on a daily basis at home and at school. These books are great to use as read alouds because the students have so many connections to the characters that Kevin Henkes has created. By presenting the author study using the power point, the students begin to see that finding a particular author and reading numerous books by that author is very exciting and informational. By sharing this presentation with my students, my goal is to influence them to complete their own author presentation on an author of their choice and to become life-long readers during the process.
