Picture Story:An online activity that consists of five different pictures for students to create their own story using technology. Context
This web page was developed in my Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching class during my pre-service training. This lesson is developed for third graders and it focuses on sequencing, story making, and technology skills. Impact This activity corresponds to the NC Standard Course of Study for Language Arts, Computer skills, and Information skills. The competencies this activity meets are addressed below.Because this activity is on the web, this idea is available to other teachers as a resource. Alignment This web page includes directions and visuals that provide teachers with specific examples of how they may do this activity in their classroom. This activity gives a different approach of how students can make a story by linking it to the web. Some of the links this activity incorporates are the NCSCS, English-Language Arts, and Technology Computer skills (Tech Comp 10.1). Students will also use computer skills with other curricular objectives because they will be writing a story (Language Arts) on the computer (Tech Comp 10.4).As students create their own story, they will learn how to copy and paste (Tech Comp 10.5).This will help prepare students for the computer test they will have to take because they will be familiar and more comfortable with computer skills. This activity gives students a chance to organize a sequenced story in the order they want on the web (Tech Comp 11.4).It also corresponds to competencies under Language Arts and Information skills. I think it is very important to use a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student's development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills. I think this is a great example for a new and different way that students can make a story (INTASC # 4). |
