Developmental
Study: A website resource for teachers and parents.
Context
I created this web page as a part of my Elementary School Curriculum
and Instruction class during my pre-service training at Appalachian State
University in fall, 2000. I created the kindergarten section of the
website. We used a number of resources such as interviews and observations
of children, websites, books, and journals, for the information in this
website.
Impact
This web page will be a valuable resource to fellow teachers, parents,
and myself when I am teaching in the classroom. It contains the physical,
intellectual, and social/emotional characteristics of children from kindergarten
to the sixth grade. The website will be useful because teachers can
see where their students are developmentally, and parents can use this
information as well.
Alignment
This artifact shows that I know how to use technology to collect information
about what students know and about their abilities. This will help
my assessment of my students because I can look at the page and see what
is normal for this age/level. I will be able to tell if my student
is advanced, behind, or right on track. I researched several websites
to get information about kindergarten-aged students and organized these
characteristics into a web page (Tech Comp
12.2). Since the product is a website, the research and information
can be communicated to anyone who accesses the website, specifically colleagues
and parents (Tech Comp 12.3).
Because of the observations and different resources used, this artifact
also shows that I understand how different children learn and develop.
It will help me in planning instruction because I can use the information
about the students (INTASC #2).
