Artifact 9
Classroom Layout—This artifact is a map of how I would like my classroom to look.

Context
During my Elementary Schools and Curriculum class in my block experience I was asked to make a classroom layout as a part of a behavior management project.  Through working with my home-base instructor in my internship as well as observing other classrooms, I came up with a layout that I think would be beneficial to me as well as my students.

Impact
This classroom layout will be useful to me when I am planning out my own classroom.  I can use it to make sure that my students and the classroom are in the most productive arrangement.

Alignment
This artifact shows that I have thought about how I will arrange my classroom.  Several aspects of the layout facilitate active, collaborative work, including the way the desks are arranged and the round carpet area (Tech Comp 12.4).  This layout encourages social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation (INTASC #5).
Since I am paying attention to the layout of the classroom, making sure that communication is possible, I am sending a non-verbal message to children that collaboration between students is important and necessary.  I will do most instructing at the front of the room (where the dry erase board is located). I will use verbal communication techniques to guide my students in their learning.  Also, the computers will provide media communication with the outside world possible (with email and internet).
