Software Evaluation
This evaluation is an analysis of a software program that can be used for individual or small groups of students who need help with specific subject areas.

Context
This evaluation and analysis was completed in the fall of 2001 for my Curriculum and Instruction class at Appalachian State University.  It was created by installing the software on my personal computer and then reviewing it using Microsoft Word.

Impact
There are many resources available to teachers when considering ways in which technology can be integrated into core subjects in order to enhance the learning in these subject areas.  By installing and then reviewing this computer software, I was able to better see what characteristics make a good computer program.  This project also provided me with an opportunity to review the opinions that other professionals have regarding several other computer software programs available.  These reviews were read from material provided on the Internet.

Alignment
The software evaluation assignment provided me with an opportunity to research computer software available to teachers (Technology Competency 2B).  This project also enabled me to research other professionals opinions regarding software that can be used when teaching a specific subject area.  Through this activity I was able to see how software is available that can enhance the learning environment as well as help students who may need extra help in a specific area of the curriculum.  Through this assignment I also evaluated a specific piece of software that I will perhaps use in my future classroom (Technology Competency 2C).  The paper that was written as a product for this assignment provided me with an opportunity to share with others what I believe to be benefits as well as downfalls to this specific piece of computer software.  This project demonstrates the teacher's ability to know about media communication in order to foster a classroom that encourages interaction and collaboration (INTASC 6).  It also demonstrates the teacher's ability to know that media is beneficial to his/her classroom and what types of software will engage students in a meaningful learning experience.
