Children's Literature Database Entries
The Children's Literature Database is a resource available to professionals in which teachers can get instructional ideas and summaries of children's literature over the Internet.

Context
While in block at Appalachian State University in the fall of 2001, I completed twenty database entries to put on the web.  These entries can be downloaded by others who are interested in children's literature and and who want to know ways in which specific books can be brought into the classroom.  I also used this database to view summaries of other children's books and in order to get ideas in which I can use those books in my future classroom.  The book reviews, summaries, and other information provided by the reader can be downloaded from the database web site.  This web site address is http://www.ltl.appstate.edu:591/Childlitdb/.

Impact
This database allows teachers to have the opportunity to share with others children's literature and ways that it can be used in the classroom.  It provides teachers with an opportunity to read a short summary of a particular book, a personal rating of the book with an explanation by the teacher that is submitting the entry, and instructional ideas of how to share this book with students in a particular grade.

Alignment
The Children's Database provides teachers with the opportunity to read summaries written by colleagues along with ideas of ways in which they can use specific reading material in the classroom (Technology Competency 5C).  This database also provides teachers with the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions with other professionals.  It provides teachers with an opportunity to evaluate material and ideas provided by other teachers when considering material and activities to use in their own classroom (Technology Competency 5B)
