Artifact 4: An example of the kind of newsletter I would send to parents at the beginning of the school year.

Context:
Through this project I posed as a third grade teacher, along with two other education majors, as we made a newsletter to parents introducing ourselves and discussing important information they need to know about the upcoming school year.  We included segments about ourselves, our classroom operating procedures, a few special events coming up, opportunities for the parents to get involved, and some of the curriculum we plan to teach that aligns with NCDPI curriculum.  We also included a picture of ourselves along with other graphics.  This newsletter was made using Microsoft Publisher.

Impact:
By making a newsletter for the parents of the third grade students, it helps prepare me for my future as a teacher.  There will be many newsletters that will be needed throughout my career.  Now I have a better understanding of how to get information to the students and their parents in a professional manner, and I am prepared to continue to seek professional yet creative and informing ways to communicate with students, parents, and other colleagues.

Alignment:
Making a newsletter aligns with Tech-competency V-D because I have created a way to send out information to the people I will be collaborating with in my career by using technology.  Furthermore, this newsletter demonstrates my willingness to establish cooperative partnerships with parents while linking with school colleagues to support students' learning (INTASC Principle 10).
