Software Review

Context:   I evaluated a software program called Fizz and Martina’s Math Adventures.  I watched the video provided in the software lesson and went through each math problem given. I then wrote a review of the software and how I would use it in my classroom.  I also had to look up other software reviews on the World Wide Web to find others that I could use in my classroom.  The software encourages students to communicate their mathematical ideas, increases comprehension, and helps with listening and writing skills.

Impact:   I plan on using software activities in my classroom.  Today we live in a computer world, so what a better way to learn than through creative software activities.  Children can learn how to manipulate a computer and enhance listening skills using computer software.  By learning how to look at software and evaluate it, I feel confident that I will be able to choose great software for my students to use.
.
Alignment:   In writing my own software review, I consulted some existing reviews, which gave me access to computer software that I can use in my classroom for all sorts of subject matter.  The process of writing my own review and consulting other reviews complies with Tech. II-B standard.  The Software Review artifact also fulfills Tech II-E, which asks a teacher to plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology enhanced environment.  The math software I evaluated gave a precise plan for the teacher to manage and engage his or her students in critical thinking while using technology.  By reviewing educational software I feel that I can make an informed decision regarding the use of technology in support of a students learning. (Tech V-B)
By using different software in my classroom I will be able to focus on certain subject matter, depending on the software used.  It will also be easier to focus on an individuals needs by looking directly in their saved work on the computer.  When using software and other technology it makes it more interesting when a teacher is trying to meet curriculum goals.
