Textbook Evaluation

Content:   I wrote an evaluation of two social studies textbooks during my block classes at Appalachian State University.  I compared two third grade textbooks.  I looked at the texts readability, the social issues presented, organization, and alternative learning aids.  I used Microsoft Word to cite my analysis.

Impact:   I think having experience with comparing textbooks and looking at their strengths and weaknesses will prepare me to provide good resources for my students.  This analysis also helped me to become more familiar with the third grade social studies curriculum guide.

Alignment:    The Textbook Evaluation artifact clearly fulfills Tech II-C because it evaluates two social studies resources for accuracy and suitability.  The Evaluation looks at each textbook to which one would be most beneficial to use in a classroom.  The goal of this artifact is to evaluate and choose a textbook that can be used with a group of learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities. (Tech. VI-B) It is hard to use one book to represent a diverse society, but evaluating the choices is a good idea.
