Individual Component to Math Strands
During my block experience I worked with a group to create a social studies unit plan that integrates all the subjects. We used the theme of recycling. We created several lesson plans including a DRTA lesson, a KWL lesson, and an Author-Illustrator lesson. We also found some lessons pertaining to recycling on the internet and incorporated them into our unit (10.3). We found lesson plans for science, physical education, and art about recycling on the web. I have included two of the lesson plans that were found on the web as evidence of our work. One lesson plan is a physical education lesson plan and the other is an art lesson plan. We also developed graphic organizers to separate the subjects and discuss what was being taught in each discipline. I have included the graphic organizer for the complete unit (10.2). As one of the activities in the lesson plan we found a video for young children on recycling. This would help children see visually what recycling is about (11.2).
