Social
Studies Textbook Analysis:
As part of my block experience, I worked with Jenifer Frye to evaluate and analyze two different social studies textbooks that were current books being used in classrooms today. We had a checksheet that we used to determine the credentials of the textbooks. We analyzed the vocabulary and sentence structure to make sure they were grade level appropriate, looked for graphics and images that would be enhancing for students at that grade level, and supplemental materials that would be beneficial for the teacher (overheads, worksheets, and activities). Based on our observations, we wrote an analysis of each book and determined whether they would be appropriate for classroom use (10.6). |
