Language Arts Unit
For a group project in Literature
class, I helped developed a unit on the Western Movement. My job in the
group was to develop a unit for the lower level reading students in the
classroom. The lesson would start off by showing a clip from Little House
on the Prairie. The class would be split into groups according to reading
level where they would read sections of their book each day. Once the students
have read the assigned section, they would each have a job that they would
have to complete. For example, Passage Picker. The student with this job
would be responsible for picking a passage and deciding what the author
meant when they wrote it. After finishing their jobs, the students would
teach their job to the rest of the group.
By using this lesson in
my classroom, I would be able to integrate many different subject areas
into one lesson. The different areas that would be covered with this unit
are social studies and reading/comprehension skills. By developing this
unit, I will also know how to meet the needs of all of the different levels
of readers in my classroom. Another thing that I will be able to carry
into my classroom is the use of technology to launch different lessons.
By using the school television
and VCR, this lesson plan will utilize the school television resources(10.2).
By using a remote control to work the VCR and television to show the tape
of Little House on the Prairie, this lesson will use wireless resources
available in the school(12.6). By showing
the clip of Little House on the Prairie as a launch activity and to give
the students a visual representation, the use of media and technology will
be incorporated in teaching the unit(12.7).
