  • Portrait of A Learner Project

  • The artifact, “Portrait of a Learner Project”, is a study I conducted on a fifth student, Matthew Minton.  This study was done during my Internship at Mabel Elementary School, during my Block at ASU, in the spring semester of 2000.  I looked at the ways Matthew learned, interacted with his peers, and what kind of student he was.  It focused on Matthew as an individual learner, not him as learner in relationship with his peers.

The strategies are applied to my professional practice.  The project helped me see how to evaluate students as learners, as well as people.  It supports my professional development as a teacher.  Also, it promotes my development in effective communication with students, parents, and administration.  It prepares me to be able to develop my professionalism so that I can share information I gathered in a beneficial way that does not offend anyone.

This project was compiled into a video at the end of collecting data.  It is a student video production (12.2).  The video will be shared with Matthew’s mother, teacher and principal, in order for me to share the data with them (12.3).  Since using Matthew in my project involved video taping him, using his work, interacting with him, and showing the final project to others, I had to obtain his mother’s permission (14.1).
