Unit for Fifth Grade Literature Circles
During my block experience at Appalachian State University, I created a unit plan on the 1600's and 1700's for my Language Arts class. It focuses on early colonization and the Salem witch hunts. The unit consists of four different books to be used in fifth grade literature circles. The on-grade level readers will be reading the book, The Sign of the Beaver, by Elizabeth George Speare. The above-grade level readers will read the book, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, also by Elizabeth George Speare. The below-grade level readers will read the books, Witch Hunt by Stephen Krensky and The Courage of Sarah Noble, by Alice Dalgliesh. The ending activities to the books vary, but for The Sign of the Beaver they will watch the movie. This unit plan corresponds to the language arts curriculum for students. Also, it allows me to further develop my technology skills of using wireless communication. The lesson will allow me to use school television resources to support
the language arts curriculum by watching the movie, The Sign of the
Beaver (10.2). The movie will be
used on two different days, in which I will be using wireless technology
either through remote controls or phone control systems (12.6).
