Harry Potter Video Project – This is a clip from a movie that I have created with a group of my peers relating to the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Context:
I created this movie during my Integrating Media and Technology in the Elementary Classroom class during my Block experience at ASU.  This is a movie that is based on topics from a Harry Potter book that my classmates and I have all read and enjoyed.  We created the movie using a digital video camera to record our acts, which were previously scripted and planned out.  Once our raw footage was recorded and on tape, we used Macintosh I Movie to revise and perfect our scenes.  We clipped out scenes, added music and visuals and made sure that the video flowed smoothly.  The finished product is a Harry Potter newscast involving clips from my group and the rest of the groups from my class.

Impact:
This video project has taught me how to use the latest in videotaping and editing technology.  This will help me in my future career because I will be able to use video equipment in my classroom and while creating my product.  Students of all ages are now required to learn about and use technology in many forms and I think that video projects are a great way to show what has been learned from many classroom assignments.

Alignment:
For this project, I learned the required skills to operate a video camera to record my group’s movie.  I also used the video camera to show what I had learned from the book I had read, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  By using a video project like this in the classroom, you not only teach student the proper techniques required to use a particular piece of technological equipment, you also will have a visual product of what the students have learned from the assignment given (Tech. Comp. 12.2).  After completing this video project, my group then presented the final product to a group of educators and colleagues.  This shows that I have used technology to present and communicate what I have learned (Tech. Comp. 12.3).
