Lesson Plans for Teachers

Context
I looked for lesson plans on the Internet that specifically covered computer technology in the classroom.  I first went to the website for the Educational Resources Information Center (http://ericir.syr.edu).  ERIC is a nationwide system of Clearinghouse and support agencies designed to help educators, librarians, and the general public keep up to date on education-related issues.  Next, I went to www.education-world.com and www.eduplace.com to look for technology-related lesson plans.  On both sites I was able to find numerous lesson plans focusing on computer science for elementary classrooms.

Impact
At the ERIC database I found a lesson plan called, “Color Winner,” in which early elementary students must follow directions, make predictions, and analyze the results while using colors.  Then, at the Education-World website I found a lesson plan called, “Primary Keyboarding Skills,” in which younger students are introduced to the “home row” position of the keyboard with a “special phrase.”  Finally, at the Eduplace website I found a lesson plan called, “Getting to Know Your Computer,” in which children learn the names of the parts of a computer and get a basic introduction to how they work by assembling their own computer with computer cutouts.

Alignment
Having an understanding of how to search for lesson plans on the Internet aligns with competency 13.4.  As a future elementary level schoolteacher, I know that using the Internet to look for lesson plans and other technology resources will offer a tremendous advantage.  Although I do not plan to use Internet lesson plans in my classroom on a daily basis, I feel more prepared knowing that I have another tool for the education process.

Alignment with INTASC Standards
The artifact meets INTASC Standard 7 because the teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of the subject matter, the students, the community, and curriculum goals.  It gives other various other people the information they need to communicate and learn about what is being studied within my classroom.
