Classroom
Climate and Environment
Context: In a Curriculum and Instruction course at Appalachian State University, instructed by Pam Schram, I completed a Classroom Climate and Environment assignment. Impact: For the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment, I considered my teaching philosophy and leadership style as related to my future classroom management plan. I would like to establish a community of learners’ environment, in which all students belong to the classroom family and are connected through common experiences. As an aspect of the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment, I considered ways in which students could share technology resources within the context of learning. Alignment: The Classroom Climate and Environment assignment satisfies goal IID of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, as well as INTASC Standard V. Through the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment, I illustrated methods for managing technology resources in my classroom, such as through encouraging students to share computers and other technologies. In the community of learners’ environment, which is based upon the premises of inclusion and sharing, students in my classroom will be expected to take turns and share technology resources at computer, music, and listening stations. Sign up sheets to assist in managing the sharing of technology resources will be used in my classroom (IID). By describing the community of learners’ environment that I plan to set up in my classroom, I demonstrated my intentions of establishing clear procedures and expectations that will allow the classroom to become a family-like environment. In the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment, I outlined specific plans for building a collaborative learning community, such as by seating students at tables, posting a list of classroom expectations, establishing student jobs, conducting class meetings, and designating a whole class reading time for each day (INTASC V).
