Video
Production Project
Context: I participated in a video production project in an Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching course at Appalachian State University, under the direction of Jeff Goodman. The book, A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck, serves as the basis and inspiration of the video. Impact: By engaging in a video production project, I gained skills and knowledge that will be useful as I have students in my classroom create videos on studied texts. By writing a video script, capturing images with a digital video camera, and using Macintosh’s imovie to edit, I was able to develop understanding of how to instruct students in using such technologies. Alignment: The video production project meets goal IIID of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. By using a digital video camera and Macintosh’s imovie in video production, I am better prepared for managing my students’ use of technology in a similar learning environment. As my students engage in video production projects, I understand the importance of creating small groups, teaching camera techniques, such as recording black, tilting, and panning, introducing imovie, and assigning jobs, such as script writer, videographer, and director. Due to my experiences in video production, I am knowledgeable about establishing and maintaining a productive technologically-enhanced environment, in which students combine reading and technology skills in learning.
