Prospective Teachers of Mathematics Association

Context:  As a requirement for a Math in the Elementary School course, instructed by Pam Schram, I joined the Prospective Teachers of Mathematics Association at Appalachian State University.

Impact:  By joining the Prospective Teachers of Mathematics Association and attending meetings, I gained valuable information on techniques and strategies for teaching math.  By listening to speakers, participating in discussions, and collecting handouts and other math materials, I am better prepared to be an elementary teacher who engages students in creative, challenging, and hands-on math activities.

Alignment:  Membership in the Prospective Teachers of Mathematics Association fulfills goal VA of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.  By joining the Prospective Teachers of Mathematics Association, I demonstrated commitment to professional development as a teacher.  By engaging in PTMA meetings and learning about instructional ideas for teaching math, I illustrated my desire to be a lifelong learner.  In addition, by accessing the Appalachian State website to find information on PTMA meetings, I demonstrated the use of technology to enhance my career as a teacher (VA).
