Children's Literature Database

Context:  I contributed information to a Children’s Literature Database as an assignment for a Language and Literacy in the Elementary School course at Appalachian State University, under the guidance of Beth Frye.

Impact:  After reading and reviewing twenty children’s books, I entered book summaries, instructional ideas, and responses on an Appalachian State University Children’s Literature Database.  Not only can my book reviews assist teachers world-wide in creating lesson plans, but I can, too, can benefit from the reviews of others.  By accessing the database, I can tap into a wealth of information on books and lessons to assist me in developing and planning activities for the students in my classroom.

Alignment:  The Children’s Literature Database assignment meets goal VC of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.  By accessing the database and using the provided information on children’s books, I demonstrate how the use of technology can be employed to make my job easier.  For example, by reading book summaries, lesson ideas, and responses that are posted in the database, I illustrate a way in which technology can assist teachers in managing time and increasing productivity (VC).
