English as a Second Language- a research project about accommodating ESL students in the classroom.

Context
The ESL project was completed during my undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University.

Impact
The ESL research project served as a useful tool in gaining valuable information about students whose second language is English.  Students whose first language is not English need to be accommodated in the classroom in many ways, and this research helped find appropriate and effective ways to do so.  It is an excellent resource to help teachers learn strategies to incorporate diversity and culture into the classroom.

Alignment
This research assignment allowed me to find useful information on accommodating students classified as ESL.  During the research, I discovered many helpful Internet sites chockfull of information about children with special needs (Tech Comp 13.2).  The Internet sites included many on students whose primary language is not English (Tech Comp 13.3).  We found information from TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), a national organization containing information on ESL students. We also interviewed teachers and found local educators willing to help with our project (Tech Comp 13.4).
