Media Influences Tape- a video documentary of how the media influences children.

Context
The Media Influences video was completed during my undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University.

Impact
The Media Influences video project served many useful purposes.  Aside from learning effective video making, I also learned what a huge impact the media has on children in society, both positively and negatively.  The video is a valuable resource for parents, teachers or anyone seeking information on the influences of media and or media literacy.

Alignment
This short documentary can be used as visuals in several lesson plans such as lessons on media literacy.  There are several process skills included in the curriculum including goals on media literacy.  This video could be used as an effective tool in introducing lessons in media literacy (Tech Comp 10.2) During this project, children were videotaped and interviewed on their opinions of media influences.  Through this interaction, we were able to collect information from the primary source of our documentary (Tech Comp 12.2).  Using the video as a resource is a visual that has advantages over others.  It includes clips of how media affects children's lives, with the primary source telling the story.  Television resources are certainly effective in presentations or lessons.  By using such resources, learning is facilitated through the instructional use of television.  The Media Influences video uses technology to teach students and parents the effects of media on our everyday lives.  The video proved to be an effective resource in teaching media  (Tech Comp 12.6).
