The Software Evaluation is an analysis of the ODS Carnival Math computer program, an interactive math game for young children. There are different levels in which the game can be played using math from subtraction through division.

Context
While in my Mathematics in the Elementary School class at ASU, I reviewed this piece of math software for use in the classroom.  In these games the children can play one of three different games. After playing  and exploring the different aspects of this game, I created an evaluation to include strengths, weaknesses, and the types of programs that are available.

Impact
After reviewing this software I discovered that this game would not be one that I would include in my classroom due to its simplistic and requires too much repetitive drill and practice. When in the classroom it is important that the teacher to have computer games that are fun, easy to navigate and beneficial to the students who use them.  This game had simple graphics, limited characters, problems to solve and it is very user friendly. This was not one of the better math games that I found for your computer.  This assignment allowed me to gain practice at reviewing software for later classroom use.  When looking at software for your classroom you must know what to look for and understand how it can benefit your students and make the most of classroom learning time.

Alignment
When planning for computer time in your classroom, you must make sure that you are making the most of the limited time in front of the computers. In order to maximize student learning I, the teacher, would evaluate the software that was on my computers ahead of time. This prior evaluation would allow me to identify the strengths and weaknesses that were most apparent. (II B)  In doing this check on the program I would be using technology in the best way possible to support student learning. (V B) A computer game is a resource that has a place in an elementary classroom, provided it is a good resource.
