Artifact thirteen
A Story Map is a creative way to express the important aspects of a story in a pictoral and verbal way that is appealing to all visually.

Context
I created this artifact while in my Language Arts for Children while in my block at ASU.  It was used to illustrate the use of imagination and creativity for the benefit of children.

Impact
This type of assignment allows the teacher to help children understand the fun that can be associated with the learning of the essential parts of a story.  I gained knowledge out of using creativity to express something that might have normally been expressed in a different way.  The importance of using different methods to teach the same ideas is very important to children's academic and creative growth.

Alignment
This assignment demonstrates the children reading a story, understanding the main idea, character, plot, them and resolution.  Next the child will verbalize the map explaining it to the class.  This is a type of informal assessment, children see this as a activity rather then work.  They communicate creatively what they learned in the book and why they chose to demonstrate it this way. This approach helps the child use critical thinking to extract the themes out of the story, as well as problem solving when they must display the themes in picture form.  (INTASC 4)
