NCCTM Math Conference, an annual conference for educators that scheduled workshops and sessions for teachers to explore new concepts regarding the teaching of mathematics.

Context
I attended the NCCTM Math Conference in the fall of 2000 during my pre-service training at Appalachian State University.

Impact
Through attending the NCCTM Math Conference I supplemented my math methods course with the world of professional teachers. As a beginning educator, I was able to gain new ideas and learn new instructional techniques to benefit my future students.

Alignment
Participating in the NCCTM Math conference was a wonderful experience. I was immersed in the professional teaching culture for the first time, which officially started my professional growth! At the conference, I was no longer an intern in an elementary school;  I was a teacher. Attending the conference was optional, but we were required to reflect on our experience. I plan to attend the conference next year in hopes of gaining more instructional ideas and more information about teaching math (INTASC #9).
