Software Evaluation

Context:
This evaluation was created as part of my Curriculum and Instruction class during my pre-service education at ASU.

Impact:
This artifact is an analysis and review of “Where in the U.S.A. is Carmen Sandiego?” as an educational tool.  This resource can be used by other teachers to assist them in deciding whether or not to use it in their classrooms.

Alignment:
The software evaluation gives teachers access to resources for planning lessons with this software by providing a review of the software from the web (Tech. Comp. 10.3).  This evaluation shows how you would go about locating, evaluating and selecting this program as a resource (Tech. Comp. 10.6).  It also provides examples on how to use this technology with geography and social studies (Tech. Comp. 11.1).  This software can be used in geography, as it involves various places around the United States, and requires technology (a computer) to use it (Tech. Comp. 11.3).  It also addresses the different learning and performance levels of children by allowing different levels of difficulty in the program (Tech. Comp. 13.1).  This software provides opportunities that support the students’ intellectual development by moving the levels whenever the child is ready (INTASC #2).  It also encourages development of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills by requiring the student to figure out where the criminal is through clues given by various people (INTASC #4).
