Artifact 1

Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum AND Computer Skills Test is designed to help see the North Carolina technology skills.

Rationale for the Artifact:  Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum AND Document on the 8th Grade Computer Skills Test

Competency 10.1: “Use the computer skills curriculum to identity what students should be able to do.”

Competency 10.5: "The NC Computer Skills Assessment."

Context:
I created this artifact during the summer of 2001 in Classroom Use of the Microcomputer in grades K-12.  This artifact was developed to see the North Carolina technology skills.  It shows us the different competency goals and objectives for each grade level and also what the strands mean for each objective.  I went to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction at www.ncdpi.org and then clicked on the curriculum and read and printed out the competencies.  The second document was on the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills.  I got on the Internet and went to www.ncpublicschools.org and read and printed it out.

Impact:
As a future teacher, I will be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom.  I am now aware of the 6 strands in computer skills for all public school students in NC, they are SI = Societal Issues; KU/WP/DTP = Keyboard Utilization/Word Processing/Desk Top Publishing; DB = Database; SS = Spreadsheet; T = Telecommunications; M/P = Multimedia/Presentation.

Alignment:
The printout of the North Carolina Computer Skills aligns with competency 10.1 – as a future North Carolina public school teacher; I know and will incorporate these skills into my lesson plans.

The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with competency 10.5 – as a future teacher, I will teach the necessary technology skills to prepare my students for the mandatory computer assessments.
