Artifact 8

Ethnography : is a project designed to show others how the media effects what students buy and wear.

Competency 12.2: "Use computers and other technologies effectively and appropriately to collect information on student learning using a variety of methods."

Context:
I created this artifact during block of my senior year at ASU.  I worked with a group of eight to complete this project using Netscape Composer.  We went around a school taking pictures with a digital camera of things that we thought were effected by the media.  We
then edited and resized the pictures, to fit on a web page, using Adobe Photoshop.  Next we designed web pages that displayed all of the information that we found within the school. Some of our hot topics were gender roles, attitudes, possessions, and terrorism.  We found that these were all very influential on the students at this school.

Impact:
As a future teacher, I will now be aware of how much the media really effects students within each school.  I know that in the future, we will move on to new and better things that I have to compete with in order for the students to actively learn to the best of their abilities. I will try my best to actively engage my students in everything that I do within the classroom.

Alignment:
This artifact aligns with competency 12.2 - this allows students to use computer and technology effectively to create a web site to show information about a product that they created.  The students are learning various ways to present their information by using the computer and technology to do so.

The ethnography also aligns with INTASC principle 2 - it teaches others of how the media really effects students and what they wear and buy.  It gives the teacher a better ideas of how the children learn and develop through the media.  After pulling all of the information together, you could have the students to investigate various ways that they see the media effecting them and others around them.  It is a good way to show them how they develop their intellectual, social, and personal development through the world around them.
