Alignment to INTASC Standards:

This artifact consists of a power point presentation that addresses the learning differences of students with Attention Deficit Disorder in the classroom. The power point presentation offers a variety of media communication tools to enrich learning opportunities about the ADD child (INTASC Standard 6).It uses effective communication strategies in conveying ideas and information about ways of discovering ADD in children, teachers' tips in dealing with the child, treatment for a child with ADD, and much more to help teachers with students with learning disabilities.

Context:

This artifact was created during my senior block methods classes. Its purpose was to address Attention Deficit Hyperactivity in the elementary school classroom. It tells about diagnosis, symptoms, treatment, tips for teachers, and other various information for children with ADD, BEH, and EMH.The power point was created to communicate facts about these disorders to colleagues in my CI 4000 class. We spent an hour and half addressing the controversies of ADD and its treatments, role playing the characteristics of the disorder, and talking about ways to use children with the disorder as a way to make the class a success. Our group printed out the power point slides and gave our colleagues a “survival kit” of information to help them deal this disability in the classroom.

Impact:

This artifact meets competencies 11.2 and 11.4 because it uses technology to teach colleagues about the disabilities that they will be faced with in their classroom at some point in their career. It uses power point to discuss the topic at hand and make the matter more visual for learners to see.I will also use this form of technology in my future classroom as a way to make learning more success for visual, audio, and kinesthetic learners alike.I will use this form of presentation in all subject areas to make learning more fun and informative.  This artifact also meets competencies 13.2, 13.3, and 13.4 because it allows the teacher to use media available through the school and learn about resources available through the state to help support effective learning for children with disabilities in the classroom.
