Artifact:Classroom Environment and Climate

Competencies:

Competency 12.4- “Physical settings that support active student involvement, inquiry, and collaboration”

Competency 14.2: "Ensuring equal access to media and technology resources for  all students."

Alignment with INTASC Standards:
The classroom environment and climate artifact helps to illustrate how I will arrange my classroom and use routines to motivate learning and enhance social relationships for my students. It helps to illustrate that my classroom will motivate group and individual learning through a supportive environment for self motivation, social interaction during class, and active engagement in learning. In this artifact I have described how I will set up rules and an environment that encourages students to work independently and in groups to engage in purposeful and valuable activities.I have set up a classroom that promotes responsibility for students and sets high expectations of student work (INTASC Standard 5).The classroom procedures indicated use of space and time management in a way that is conductive to learning for all students. The artifact shows that I have taken great consideration into ways of arranging a classroom that will promote productive work and enhance students’ relationships with others as well as the teacher.I have begun to think of how I would like my classroom to run and ways I will set it up so that will be beneficial to my students and to my monitoring their work each day.It is in this artifact that I shows ways to motivate learning in the classroom and will set up guidelines to manage students’ behavior to make learning an excitable experience for both the teacher and learner.

Context:
This artifact contains an assignment that I completed for my block curriculum and instruction class. In the paper I have told about observations that I have made in the classroom in the classroom I doing my intern and why I feel her classroom is set up a particular way.I have described how I feel her students benefit from having the room set up this particular way and how my intern teacher fosters learning through the use of class arrangement.Taking into consideration students’ needs for social interaction and active learning, I have described how and why I will arrange my class a particular way to foster learning.A map of my future classroom is included in the artifact to illustrate class set up.

Impact:
This artifact meets competencies 12.4 and 14.2 because it describes a classroom that will promote learning and access to media for all students.  As an elementary school teacher, it important to consider classroom set up and routine policies in order to foster learning in the classroom. In order to maximize the quality of education in my classroom, I will arrange my classroom in a fashion similar to that one seen in this artifact because it promotes social interaction and allows a lot of hands on activities for students to engage during the school day.I plan to be licensed to teach elementary school and will use the classroom as tool for making learning meaningful.
