Artifact:  Modern Fashion and Invention Web Page

Competencies:

Competency 10.5 "The NC Computer Skills Assessment."

Competency 11.1- "Use technology in the discipline/subject for learning and as a medium for communications"

Alignment with INTASC Standards:
This artifact aligns with INTASC Standard 2 because allowing students to complete web page similar to this one will allow the teacher to evaluate student performance socially through peer interaction and cognitively through their creativity.  It provides opportunities for students to assume responsibility for the product and image of their work and allows the teacher to assess prior computer knowledge through their use of Netscape Composer.  It also aligns with INTASC Standard 4 because it encourages students to assume different roles in the instructional process by allowing them to become creator for a day.  It introduces multiple teaching strategies to get students engaged in the assignment at hand.

Context:
This web page was composed on Netscape Composer and serves as a tool for
teaching students how to use the internet to demonstrate their knowledge in the classroom.  After choosing an object and coming up with a creative way to use this object, I created a web page to demonstrate the use of the object.  I also created a link to a page that will assist other teachers on ways of constructing a similar lesson and a link to a page that will assist students in creating their own web pages to advertise their modern inventions.  The purpose of this activity is to give students hands on experience with working digital cameras and creating web pages.  The web page serves as a model to demonstrate to students how to use a particular item to form a new invention and using their creation to create a web page to share you item with others.

Impact:
Students will be encouraged to use their imagination to the fullest when constructing a web page similar to onw I have created.  Students can work with partners to discussion the items and the inventions that they are creating.  Allowing students to create an advertisement for their invention and placing this on the web will give students the computer skills to create web pages and use digital cameras to demonstrate their understanding and work on class material.  The web page can serve as a fun activity for students and an easy assessment tool for teachers to use to gain an understanding of students' computer skills.  Students can also be encouraged to create links to help others navigate around their invention page.  Doing this activity will give students a feeling of accomplishment in sharing their creations with others through the web.  It meets competency 11.1 because it allows students to use technology as a means of communicating what they are learning in the classroom.  It meets competency 10.5 because it allows the teacher to test students' computer skills through the use of Netscape Navigator.
