NCCTM Conference:  The North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics held a conference October 11 & 12, 2001 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  This artifact is the cover of the program from the conference.

Context
I attended this professional mathematics conference while taking my Mathematics method class during the Fall of 2001.

Impact
By attending this professional conference, I now have an idea of what educators can to do in order to continue their professional development.

Alignment
During this conference, I reflected upon my own knowledge of mathematics and methods of teaching.  Being surrounded by so many respectable educators made me feel more professional myself and that my work as an educator was valued.  Those who attended the conference were doing so for the same reasons I did -- to further their knowledge of the subject of math and explore new techniques for teaching math.  Before attending the conference, I explored the NCCTM and the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) websites to better understand the organizations and their purposes (Technology Standard V A).  When registering for the math conference, I became a member of the NCCTM.  From attending the conference, I learned new ways to teach "calendar math" and several math games that have high educational value and are still exciting to play.  Through continuous professional development opportunities, I hope to increase my knowledge of the world of teaching.  (INTASC Principle 9)
