A. Name.  Modern Fashion Invention

B. Context  This project was created in my CI3750 class, Integrating Technology into Instruction.  This required picking a random object out of a box and inventing a new use for it in a small group.  After inventing your object within your group, we took digital pictures of our object and its uses.  We then individually typed up our invention ideas in the form of  a web site.  This web site includes a teacher page (for lesson guidelines), a student page (for ideas to launch them on their own), and an example page (with an example of our own inventions with its write-up).

C. Impact   This is a great creative tool to use in the classroom with students.  You can use this project as a launching point on creating web pages, or simply as another invention assignment.  Language Arts aspects are deeply embedded in this activity as well, with creative aspects in the invention.  It is also helpful to use this type of publishing for your classroom, and use this as an example.

D. Alignment

  • This project covers many competencies.  The first competency that the Modern Fashion Invention covers is competency II.D because on the teacher page, it includes an entire lesson plan.  In this lesson plan, specific considerations are taken into account, like classroom management.  Management of technology resources is required for this project, and is covered throughout this created invention web site.
  • The Modern Fashion Invention covers competency II.E because students are specifically applying critical thinking and creativity as they interact with a particular piece of material.  Through use of this web site, teachers will manage student learning through the lesson plan.  Children will use their imaginations and creativity to apply to their inventions.
  • This project covers competency IV.A because this artifact uses a variety of assessment tools for students.  There is a rubric included on the teacher page that may be used, in addition to emailing feedback on their work.
  • This project cover IV.C because it applies many methods of evaluation to determine the student's appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.  The grading rubric, and the grading of the assignment as a whole, is an evaluation of the final product and of their technological learning and abilities.
  • The Modern Fashion Invention covers competency VI.E because it ensures that all students have equal access to technology resources in the classroom.  Included in the teacher page considerations such as sign up procedures, sharing procedures, computer use rules, etc. are dealt with.  Children with physical disabilities are taken into account as well.
  • This project meets the requirements of INTASC principle #8.  This competency states that the teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner. Through this project, students demonstrate their understanding of technological aspects and overall, how to create a website.  The students will also be working in small, cooperative groups, and will increase their social skills.
