B. Context This wonderful assignment was created in my Children's Literature class.  Individually, I chose two children's books that I wanted to create a literature circle unit around.  I chose "Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key" and "The Skin I'm In".  Surrounding these two books, I prepared the teacher plans for each section, as well as examples of the roles such as:  Character Sketcher, Discussion Director, Passage Picker, Word Wizard, Summarizer, and Investigator.  I then posted all of this on a webpage for easy access.

C. Impact This is one of the most extensive ways of managing various aspects of your classroom.  Through literature circles, a teacher may differentiate to every reading level in her classroom comfortably.  The students feel comfortable in their own reading level and are able to grasp many aspects of the books they are reading.  They are able to explore these books freely and expressively through the various roles in the literature cirlce.

D. Alignment

  • This project meets standard V.D. because you are using technology to communicate and collaborate with parents and the larger community in order to nuture student learning.

  • This project meets INSTASC principle #10.  This states that the teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students' learning and well-being.  By providing communication between teacher and parents begins to foster a relationship between the two parties.  You are informing them of what is going on at school.
