 Software Evaluation

     My software evaluation is on "The Magic School Bus:  Explores the Human Body."  Along with this computer software I prepared a lesson plan to work with a third grade student.  Working with this software, the student met the NC Computer Skills Curriculum Goals (10.4).  To find software that this particular student could work with, I did several assessments and observations to find her strengths and weaknesses in academic areas (10.6).  I chose the Magic School Bus software for several reasons.  First, of all it is easy for the student to relate to.  This is a very popular cartoon with young children, and it is full of academic approaches (10.2).  Also, there are always adventures with Ms. Frizzle's class and the magic school bus, and I wanted this student to have an adventure too.  This specific software focuses on science and the human body.  After observing the lack of science in this student's academic life, I wanted to integrate science using this software (11.3).  The student will learn all about the human body and all of the internal factors by using this software on the human body.  I will use this form of technology to support learning in my student, who has special needs (13.2).  The student will be able to choose different paths to go through the body, and they will learn many facts about organs and other functions of the body.  Once the student has found an organ to explore, she can choose the print option on the screen and print a picture of the body part (10.5).  The software will help to assess and evaluate the level of the student's abilities and learning.  I will use the technology to address the differences in my child's learning (13.1).
