  • Science Lesson Plan

  • During my general science class at Appalachian State University, I modified an existing lesson plan to create a lesson on sinking and floating.  I taught it to my lab class.  If I end up teaching first or second grade, I will be able to use this lesson as part of my curriculum because it incorporates the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  As part of my lesson on sinking and floating, I will play a short clip from the movie “Titanic” to illustrate this concept.  This movie is very popular and will be something the children can relate to. (10.2)  As part of the lesson, the students will be taking their own objects and predict whether they will sink or float and then test their hypothesis.  I have also created some higher order thinking skills questions to promote the student’s inquiry (12.5).
