  • Portrait of A Learner

  • During my block at Appalachian State University, I completed a project called Portrait of a Learner.  The purpose of this project was to pick one child to observe closely and assess during my internship to learn more about her personally and academically.  I used a video camera to collect information on her personal likes, dislikes, and environment.  I also taped our formal and informal assessments in math, writing, and reading (12.2).  After compiling a lot of data, I made a video to communicate what I had learned to my professors, the student's teacher, and her parents (12.3).  I have gathered valuable experience working with video cameras and the editing process.  In addition, I had the chance to focus on one student and learn about her learning style, practice giving and interpreting assessments.  This will be beneficial when I start teaching because I will already know how to give assessments and what they mean to a classroom teacher.
