Weekly Reflections: A set of reflections on my thoughts and observations during my Internship experience at Beech Mountin Elementary School.

Context:
As an assignment for my Curriculum and Instruction class at Appalachian State University, I wrote a weekly reflection using either Microsoft Word or a hand-written document.  These reflections were based on my experiences and observations in a 2nd & 3rd combination class at Beech Mountain Elementary School.

Impact:
As a teacher, it is important to be observant of how my students are progressing in their studies and social issues.  Keeping a reflective journal can help to keep track of all the little occurrences and ideas that I might have in a day without trying to remember them all in my head.

Alignment:
By reflecting on my students’ progress, I can also observe whether or not my teaching strategies are effective.  Keeping notes on what is not working can help me decide how to change my lessons to better meet the needs of my students (INTASC #9).  Simply reflecting on the students’ behavior can also influence what I will focus on in my teaching.  I can also use reflections from previous years as a running observation of how children in a particular grade learn and grow.  By continuing to reflect on my classroom experiences, I can learn and grow professionally and provide better learning opportunities for my students.
