Artifact # 2 |
Context: I created the culture kit to fulfill a requirement in a social studies methods class in the spring of 2002. I used online resources, as well as, books to research the Egyptian culture. Then, I used this information to create the culture kit. I took pictures of the culture kit with a digital camera. Impact: This is an excellent activity to expand students' knowledge about the world. I would use this in my classroom to integrate informational skills, computer skills, language arts, social studies, public speaking, and creative thinking. Students pick a country they are interested in. They use their library's catalog to find an informational book on their country. They use this book and any internet sites to find information on their country. They may print pictures from the internet or electronic encyclopedias to decorate their kit. All pictures must be cited. They use their knowledge to find objects that represent their country. They create a key that explains the significance of each object. Then, they present their kits to the rest of the class. The students will use a digital camera to take pictures of the culture kits. Alignment: Because this activity
is learner-centered, there are many opportunites to make the activity developmentally
appropriate. Students will select books and web sites that are on
their reading level. (IIA, IIIB)
They will use technology to gather information. The students will
then use their imagination to locate items that represent their country.
Because everyone has limited resources, they must all think of creative
ways to surpass this obstacle.(IIIC)
This project's main theme is celebrating diversity. They will use
technology resources to support diversity by researching different cultures.
