A.  Title:
Media Ethnography
I completed this project as a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.   It was created by Katie Hyatt and myself  in order to present the information we learned from weeks of data collection at an elementary school.  It focuses on children and the impact and influence that the media has on them.

B. Context
This project was created in my CI 3750 class, Integrating Media and Technology into Instruction.  I interviewed kindergarten and first grade students on their preferences regarding television shows and favorite characters.  I used Adobe Photoshop to scan pictures, Microsoft PowerPoint, and the World Wide Web to research statistics regarding the information that I found.

C. Impact
While working on this project I learned many things.  It was shocking on how much of an impact the media actually has on children. A way in which it will impact me as a future teacher is that I will be more aware of the choices that I make when using the media in my classroom or in the school.  I plan to use such a project with my students.  By allowing such a project to be done in the classroom it make the students more aware of the media influences they have in their own lives.

D. Alignment
This project shows my ability to collect and analyze data.  It shows that I have the ability to interpret this data and present in a useful and interesting fashion.  (Technology Standard IV B)

This project demonstrates that I will continually evaluate the technology and media allowed in my classroom after learning the results of this activity.  I will only choose appropriate media and technology in my classroom after careful consideration. (Technology Standard V B)

By allowing students to complete a similar activity, they can learn how media has positive and negative uses.  They can determine the impact media has on society and learn how to protect themselves and not believe everything they see. (Technology Standard VI D)

Children develop in many different ways, one of which is socially.  Children learn from their peers, parents, teachers, and their surroundings.  This Media Ethnography project shows what children come into contact with each day and supports their intellectual, social, and personal development (INTASC 2)
