Artifact: Modeling   This is a picture of another teacher doing a word sort with students that she is tutoring. A letter from a fellow teacher is also included. This is a thank you note expressing her gratitude for my assistance and mentoring through out the year.


Context:
This is a picture of another teacher using word sorts in an after school tutoring program that I   monitored. Prior to the tutoring program beginning I administered the Appalachian IRI to each student that was going to participate in the after school tutoring. I The other teachers in the tutoring program were then trained in  tutoring format that was used in the Practicum with Dr. Morris. I modeled the lesson with the students teaching the other teachers this particular program. I showed them how to implement the word sorts for each student. I did the lesson plans for the students. The other teachers then began using the tutoring aspects and I oversaw the teachers and the students progress through the course of the tutoring program.

I was also the  mentore for a fellow teacher. I taught her how  to administer  the IRI, then set up an individualized program for her students following the same tutoring program that we used in the Practicum summer tutoring program. Also this fellow teacher implemented word sorts ,with my assistance, in her classroom. I helped her through out a time period until she felt comfortable implementing these aspects. I  still assist her when she has questions concerning her students. She now incorporates all aspects into her daily instruction.

Myself and a fellow teacher are working with the principle to provide a workshop for the faculty on word sorts. This workshop would be to demonstrate how to determine what level each child is on and to develop word sort activities to incorporate these activities into their daily instructional regime.
